Noomi Rapace / Ikeisenhower
Turning ink into gold?
Noomi Rapace is having her "Tattoo" altered, but her career path could be changing for the better.
The same day her successor to the role was named, the actress who played Lisbeth Salander in the original "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was being talked about for a possible Oscar nomination.
Rooney Mara was tapped to play Lisbeth in the Hollywood remake of the Swedish thriller.
Just when it seemed to be a solemn day for fans of Rapace, Deadline.com's Nikki Finke broke the news that Noomi might be an Academy Award nominee possibility.
Wouldn't that be sweet vindication?
Lisbeth herself couldn't come up with a better revenge plan.
Writes Finke:
"Oscar season officially begins September 1st. And already I hear Hollywood types everywhere ... wondering aloud if breakout star Noomi Rapace could get an Academy Award for playing Lisbeth Salander. ... I've now confirmed that she is eligible.
"Because Music Box Films released director Niels Arden Oplev's 'Dragon Tattoo' version in a Los Angeles County theater for a qualifying run this past March, thus making Rapace's performance eligible. I've learned that Music Box Films is about to hire an Oscar publicist, probably Melody Korenbrot, to promote Noomi for a Best Actress nomination. That's right, Best Actress."
So don't be one of the clueless ones on Oscar night who goes, "Who the heck is THAT?" when you see the lovely and talented Noomi walking the red carpet and sitting in one of the first few rows in the Kodak Theatre.
Rent "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and enjoy its sequel, "The Girl Who Played with Fire", on the big screen before it leaves theaters.
Then if she does get called to the stage, you can enjoy the moment with the rest of us who anticipated it happening.
